Very Good Movie
There is surprisingly a lot of hate for this movie and idk why. The plot is definitely the best part of this movie. It shows how jealousy can sprout when two women are trying to compete for attention of the same friend. And I think it did that very well. The comedy ranges from funny as heck to complete miss. However, when it is funny, it's hilarious and memorable. Overall, a very good comedy/drama movie that is easily worth watching even for the plot alone.

Guess I never rated/reviewed this when it first came out but I recently rewatched it on a whim to see if it was better than I remembered. Unfortunately and unsurprisingly, it seems fairly representative of my main issue with SNL and SNL-related movies: yes, some of the cast members are talented and funny people but the writing is generally lazy and painfully unfunny. It still mostly works as an examination of jealously and relationships in general but at 2 hours with so few laughs, it's a bit of a chore to sit through.

Once the vomiting & pooping humour starts in a comedy its all over for me usually. Kristen Wiig has a hallway decent character in this but otherwise predictable but all the usual tropes. Recommended to Judd Apatow fans. This one does exactly what you would expect from it.

A fairly entertaining movie where Kristen Wiig pretty much steals the show and seems to be getting better and better with every movie.
The plot itself is pretty silly has been done before, and at times drags on for too long.
If you want to watch the movie for one reason only, it would be the entire scene on the plane, where it offers the most comedic value.
Best line:... And I am Mrs. ... Iglesias

Straight out of the schadenfreude school of comedy: if someone is suffering and miserable and they make it worse with every mistaken step they take it must be funny to someone somewhere. Feel like this is a cheap comedic move insofar as it is grossly overused, especially in many Apatow-associated comedies. Part of the problem is that though Kristen Wiig is funny, she can also act more than a little bit. That is to say, she's actually not the ideal candidate for this kind of comedy since she invests the viewer in her misery. One is either a foil or you feel for them and Wiig is more than a foil. Even at her most abject and cringeworthy, she manages to imbue her part with some dignity and character. And so it is less funny than it could be—one actually feels sorry for her character. That's the problem. The film isn't a flat out gross comedy fest, sh*tting in the sink be damned. In fact, it asks the audience to feel along with the Wiig character. It even asks the audience to feel along with the comic enemy Rose Byrne plays. Thus it seems like the directors and writers want it both ways: gross-out comic stupidity to rival anything the boys get up to and feeling dramedy at the same time. I'd actually prefer to see something a little more tonally unified. So I enjoy Wiig here as the woebegone bestie of marrying friend Rudolph, constantly upstaged by Rudolph's new rich friend Byrne. The other women are along for the ride and their parts are relatively underwritten, with the exception of Melissa McCarthy, who is insanely funny in her part. But Wiig is charismatic enough and talented enough as an actor to do this as drama without the comic attempt to make us laugh by having her character endure one bad thing after another. Have seen her in other dramatic roles and think her strength is actually bringing comic touches to pathos than trying to bring a little drama to comedy. So this was okay but the last half became an utterly predictable romantic comedy. The best scenes are Wiig's with potential new romantic interest O'Dowd and anything with McCarthy.

Surprisingly decent and entertaining for a modern, mainstream comedy. Kind of typical and cliched, but also has a lot of funny moments. Thankfully the comedy factor wins at the end of the day and makes this one pretty worthwhile.

I mean, yeah, it is basically a standard Judd Apatow production with an all female cast, but there's a scene where a woman takes a sh*t in a sink, and sometimes that's all I need to overlook everything I typically dislike about these types of movies.

So I made my friends pick out movies that were in my collection (and my mom's since that's where both are located) and one of them picked this. We spun a wheel to decide the movie. It was this. We were so absolutely bored out our f*cking minds, even when we were drunk. We thought this was gonna funny bad...

Ah, the Judd Apatow school of making every film really f*cking long in the hope of stumbling upon a decent joke. Eventually. [3]
